Office of Hispanic Ministry holds annual women’s retreat
On Oct. 5, the diocesan Office of Hispanic Ministry hosted its annual women’s retreat at Good Shepherd Church in Russellville, drawing over 350 women from various parishes across the diocese.
The retreat began with Mass celebrated by Father Victor Salomon, who reminded participants not only of their special invitation from God but also to be open to the gifts He had prepared for them. The day unfolded with spiritual talks, worship, confessions, fellowship, and adoration.
One of the impactful speakers, Paula Umana, shared her miraculous recovery from paralysis, explaining how this experience led her to establish a ministry of healing, offering hope to those suffering from illnesses or trauma. Father Ricardo Lopez from the Archdiocese of Guadalajara delivered a message of worth and belonging, especially for women feeling abandoned or distanced from the Church. Patricia Sandoval, known for her powerful testimony of healing from post-abortion trauma and addiction, deeply moved the attendees reminding them to always seek God's mercy. She also encouraged women to embrace chastity, protect their children's innocence by fostering a personal relationship with Christ, and be courageous in defending the lives of the unborn. Alisber Zapata, a talented Catholic singer from the Dominican Republic, enriched the day with her beautiful and anointed music. Several priests stopped by to hear confessions throughout the day.
The retreat concluded with adoration, where participants knelt before the Eucharist, experiencing God’s love and mercy. Many left with renewed hope, joy, and shared testimonies of healing. The atmosphere of unity and sisterhood throughout the day fostered a profound sense of community, reminding all that they are God’s precious daughters.
