Local high school announces National Merit semifinalist
In early September, approximately 16,000 students—representing about one-third of the 50,000 highest scorers nationwide—are notified that they have qualified as National Merit semifinalists. To ensure that academically talented students from all parts of the United States are represented, semifinalists are selected on a state-representational basis and are among the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
St. John Paul II Catholic High School recently announced that senior Hana Protz was selected as a National Merit semifinalist based on her outstanding PSAT/NMSQT scores from her junior year. She exemplifies commitment to dedication, hard work, and academic excellence.
Protz was also selected as this year’s recipient of the prestigious Rensselaer Medal. The Rensselaer Medal is awarded to an outstanding student who has demonstrated exceptional achievement and promise in mathematics and science.
