John Carroll Catholic Hires New Baseball Coach

John Carroll Catholic High School in Birmingham recently announced that Ehren Wassermann will be the new head coach of the Cavalier baseball program. Wassermann, a Sylacauga High School graduate, comes to John Carroll from Hoover High School where he has served as the varsity pitching coach since 2020.

“Coach Wassermann will be a great addition to our coaching staff,” said Dr. Anthony Montalto, John Carroll principal. “His values and high expectations align with those of John Carroll, and he adds to the already strong and experienced staff that we have leading our Cavalier teams.”

Wassermann, played collegiate baseball at Jefferson Davis Community College and Samford University and was signed as a free agent into the White Sox organization in 2003. Wassermann’s career with the White Sox lasted until 2009 when he signed a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. Additionally, in 2009 Wassermann pitched for the USA Baseball National Team which won the gold medal.

Coach Wassermann’s coaching career began in 2012 with the Windy City Thunderbolts. He also coached in the Minnesota Twins organization and at Vestavia Hills High School before moving to the Hoover program in 2018.

When asked about his new position, Wassermann noted, “I’m so excited to get to know the players and families at John Carroll. My expectations are to develop well-rounded young men through growth in character, spiritual life, academics, and baseball. I can’t wait to get started, and I want to thank Dr. Anthony Montalto for the opportunity.”

In addition to his coaching duties, Coach Wassermann will be teaching full-time in John Carroll’s science department. In his free time, he enjoys exploring beaches, playing golf, hiking, paddle boarding, and cooking.
