Holy Spirit Catholic School: Class of 2024

On May 18, Holy Spirit Catholic School in Tuscaloosa celebrated 21 seniors with a Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement. The Mass was celebrated by Msgr. Michael Deering, pastor of Holy Spirit Parish, with Father Tom Ackerman, pastor of St. Francis University Parish, concelebrating. Catholic Schools Superintendent Margaret Dubose, Elementary Principal Josh Saibini, and Middle/High School Principal Jonathan Loper conducted the commencement ceremony.

The school’s graduates were Madelyn Aleda Butson, Terry James Collins, Peyton Alexandria Davis, Thaïs Nila Drewelow, Trenton Parker Ewart, Cole Nicholas Glover, Lily Ella Hanks, Malcolm Oak Johns, John Wesley Killen, Genesis Grace Lee, Michael Cohen Lopacki, JaNesha Emma-Cenia Marshall, Sadie Elizabeth McClendon, Gracie Amanda Morrison, McKenzie Grace Jin Mundy, Jackson David Norris, Lilla Paige Ramos, Jonas Hoyt Senkbeil, Alexander Reed Simmons, Robbie Charlette Tillman, and Carol Escarlet Urrutia.

The seniors were accepted to 22 colleges and universities, including Auburn University, Belmont University, Bevill State Community College, Birmingham-Southern College, Drexel University, Louisiana State University, Mercer College, Mississippi State University, Mississippi University for Women, North Carolina State University, Point University, Shelton State Community College, Stillman College, Troy University, Tuskegee University, University of Alabama, University of Alabama at Huntsville, University of Colorado Boulder, University of Mississippi, University of Montevallo, University of West Alabama, and Virginia Tech University. Of the 21 seniors, 17 received scholarship offers and five received apprenticeship offers. As of graduation, the class of 2024 amassed $1,586,485 in total scholarship offers. One graduate received an athletic scholarship in track and field.

Peyton Davis, Thais Drewelow, Cole Glover, Oak Johns, Wesley Killen, Sadie McClendon, Jonas Senkbeil, and Robbie Tillman graduated as Honor Graduates with GPAs over 4.0. Twelve graduated as members of the Bishop David Foley Chapter of the National Honor Society, nine as members of Mu Alpha Theta, five as members of Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica, and four as members of the National Latin Honor Society. Grace Mundy, Sadie McClendon, and Carol Urrutia graduated as members of Key Club, and each earned at least fifty hours of community service this year. As a whole, the class of 2024 completed over 300 hours of community service this year alone.

Wesley Killen was the salutatorian, and Thaïs Drewelow was the valedictorian. The Bishop’s Trophy recipient was Sadie McClendon.
