Joseph and Veronica (Yendrall) Gornik, of Pleasant Grove are celebrating 50 years of marriage this month. Joe and Roni were married on Sept. 4, 1971, in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Wheeling, WV, by the Father John Mercer, S.M. They have been active members of St. Joseph Parish in Ensley since their move to the Birmingham area in November of 1984. Joe retired from Wheeling Machine Products, a subsidiary of U.S. Steel. Roni retired from the Jefferson County School System. The couple have three children: Edward (Julie) of Tampa, FL; Steven (Mary) of Pleasant Grove; and Kiomi of Birmingham. Four grandsons complete the family tree: Zachary, Hayden, Sterling, and Joseph. They celebrated their anniversary earlier this summer with a family gathering at Oglebay Resort in their hometown of Wheeling, WV., where they gifted each other with new golden wedding bands. Their children, grandchildren, several siblings, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins were in attendance. The celebration ended with a family karaoke night.
