Faith in Education: Investing in the future of Catholic schools
The Faith in Education Endowment is more than just a fund — it’s a commitment. A commitment to strengthen Catholic education across the Diocese of Birmingham today and for generations to come. Rooted in both financial and spiritual stewardship, this endowment ensures our schools have the resources they need to continue forming hearts and minds in the light of faith.
Through Faith in Education, schools can receive funding to address pressing needs, launch innovative programs, or respond to unexpected challenges — all in service of advancing the mission of Catholic education.
Each summer, schools are invited to apply for Faith in Education Grant Awards, which are reviewed by the Grant Review Committee. This committee includes the superintendent of schools, the chief financial officer, the director of development and stewardship, clergy representatives, and members of the Diocesan Advisory Council for Catholic Education. Together, they evaluate each application using a standardized rubric to ensure that every dollar supports impactful initiatives.
Fundraising for the endowment happens throughout the year, and the response has been inspiring. Over the past two school years, the Catholic Schools Office launched a matching gift challenge that not only met but exceeded its fundraising goals each time. The generosity of our donors made the 2025 grant awards possible, helping bring meaningful improvements to classrooms, campuses, and student experiences across the diocese.
The 2025 Faith in Education Grant Awards were announced on Sept. 12 during the annual Catholic Schools Office Formation Day. Superintendent Margaret Dubose proudly recognized the following schools and their projects: Holy Spirit Catholic School, Tuscaloosa (WiFi access points and sensory room), Holy Spirit Catholic School, Huntsville (teacher laptop upgrades, 7th grade forensic science unit, and playground sensory wall), Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School, Homewood (structured literacy dyslexia specialist certification), St. John Paul II Catholic High School, Huntsville (part-time interventionist), Our Lady of the Valley Catholic School, Birmingham (additional security cameras), St. John the Baptist Catholic School, Madison (sacred steps sensory path), Sacred Heart Catholic School, Cullman (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd atrium materials), St. James Catholic School, Gadsden (portable choir risers), St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic School, Montevallo (two-step entry system).
Each of these projects represents the heart of Catholic education in action — nurturing students’ faith, curiosity, safety, and sense of belonging.
The 2025-2026 Faith in Education fundraising goal is to raise $100,000 by July 31, 2026. To join in this campaign and support diocesan schools, please visit
