Diocese of Birmingham Welcomes New Human Resources Director

The Diocese of Birmingham recently welcomed a new face to the Chancery: Eugene Thibodeaux, the new Human Resources director. He comes to Birmingham from Louisiana, where his history of working for the Church began in 2005.

“I began working for my home parish, Our Lady of the Assumption in Carencro, Louisiana, in high school … as an office assistant, overseeing communications and our parish cemetery.” Thibodeaux’s work experience left an impression and led him to pursue employment at the diocesan level. The Diocese of Lafayette was looking for a person to work with a drug free grant given to the diocesan Youth Ministry Department: Thibodeaux fit the bill.

Within the Lafayette Chancery, he transitioned from Youth Ministry to Safe Environment, then, most recently, to Human Resources, where he served as Assistant Human Resources Director. “I love my work with the church,” Thibodeaux said, “as we are the hands and feet of Christ. I believe that an opportunity lies in every encounter to evangelize and draw people closer to Him.”

Speaking on his move to Birmingham, Thibodeaux said: “When this position in Birmingham became available, I felt that it was an opportunity to pull together my skills in Safe Environment and Human Resources along with my organizational abilities to aid the Diocese of Birmingham in enhancing these services. … My goal for the diocesan Human Resources office is to not only streamline our processes and procedures but also provide educational opportunities for all of our pastors, principals, and business administrators, to name a few. My vision is for our associates across the diocese to know that we are here as a resource, as without them, there is no HR.”

Leaving Louisiana meant Thibodeaux had to leave his family. He has two sisters, Nicole and Nakerra, and two nieces, Adalyn Semone and Chloe Carolyn, who are the “highlight” of his days. He is in the process of finding a parish family here in the Diocese of Birmingham, but he remarked, “I have received such a warm welcome and truly feel like I am at home.”
