Bishop Raica extends a warm welcome to Bishop Mark S. Rivituso, Archbishop-elect of Mobile

On July 1, Pope Leo XIV named Bishop Mark S. Rivituso, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of St. Louis since 2017, as the Third Archbishop of Mobile. Archbishop-elect Rivituso, 63, succeeds Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi, who has selflessly shepherded the archdiocese of over 17 years.

On behalf of the clergy, religious, and lay faithful of the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama, I extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to the Most Reverend Mark S. Rivituso upon his appointment by the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, as the new Archbishop of Mobile.

Archbishop Rivituso brings with him a deep love for the Church and a steadfast pastoral heart, formed over many years of faithful service as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. His life and ministry reflect the words that are also the episcopal motto he shares with his predecessor - Caritas Christi Urget Nos (The Love of Christ Impels Us). This love of Christ, which has shaped his ministry, will now enliven and bless the people of the Archdiocese of Mobile, the broader Church in Alabama, and the Province of Mobile (Alabama and Mississippi).

At the same time, we offer our profound thanks and fraternal esteem to Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi, who has shepherded the Archdiocese of Mobile with wisdom, humility, and unwavering fidelity since 2008. His episcopal ministry has been a source of stability and inspiration throughout the province and beyond. We give thanks to God for his years of generous and grace-filled leadership.

As Archbishop-elect Rivituso begins his new ministry in our beloved state, may he be warmly embraced by the people of Mobile and by all who call Alabama home. We assure him of our prayers, friendship, and joyful collaboration as together we proclaim the Gospel of Christ and build the Kingdom of God in our midst.

Welcome, Archbishop-elect Rivituso!
