Benedictine abbot of St. Bernard Abbey resigns

On the morning of Oct. 17, St. Bernard Abbey in Cullman announced the resignation of Abott Marcus J. Voss, O.S.B., effective immediately, for health reasons.

Abbot Marcus, who has served as the tenth Abbot of St. Bernard, leaves a legacy of dedicated service to his monastic community. During his long career of leadership, St. Bernard has experienced significant growth and renewal, including the recent renovation of the monastery building. Abbot Marcus has long worked to develop lasting relationships with alumni and friends, relationships which continue to enrich the St. Bernard community. The monks extend their profound gratitude to Abbot Marcus for his six years as abbot, as well as his more than 61 years of fidelity to monastic life.

Brother Brendan Seipel, O.S.B., the Prior of St. Bernard Abbey, has been appointed as temporary administrator.
